Muslims must pray five times a day. Muslims can offer more prayers than these five to win Allah’s favor. These prayers are known as nafl or supererogatory prayers. Nafl is shorthand for getting more. Numerous nafl prayers exist, such as Ishraq, Tahyat ul Wudhu, Chasht, and Awabeen. However, Tahajjud is the most fruitful and amazing prayer of all.

The Holy Prophet’s Sunnah (PBUH) also includes tahajjud. He (PBUH) encouraged his companions to do Tahajjud regularly.

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) stated in a hadith:

This world and everything in it are not as good as the two rakats of Tahajjud.โ€

The prayer of Tahajjud is a miracle. When someone prays this way, they feel the closest to Allah (SWT).

Tahajjud practitioners experience inner serenity. The world’s concerns are no longer upon them. In this prayer, Allah bestows the intercessor boundless blessings and rewards. The method to have your prayers answered is through tahajjud. They are saying the Tahajjud prayer aids in finishing your tasks. It makes your life suitable and offers spiritual healing to your soul.

What is Tahajjud Prayer?

“H-j-d” is the root of the Arabic term “tahajjud,” which means to stay up at night. As a result, another name for it is the night prayer. One must get up in the middle of the night to do Tahajjud, which occurs between the Isha and Fajr prayers. The fact that the Quran and the Prophet (PBUH) mention prayer makes it a fruitful practice.

The Tahajjud prayer, sometimes called Qiyam-u-lail, is included in the fourth category of Salaat (prayers), or Nafl, indicating that it is voluntary and that skipping it does not constitute a sin. Usually offered after Isha, the required nocturnal prayer, and before Fajr, the required morning prayer, is Tahajjud.ย

Since “tahajjud” means “to give up sleep,” it is best to say this prayer in the latter part of the night. Islam says that during this time of night, Allah descends to the lowest sky to see who is devotedly worshiping and waking up in the middle of the night from their slumber.

When and How to Perform Tahajjud

This unique Islamic prayer is offered in the latter part of the evening, just before the start of the Fajr prayer. It is the hour of the night when everything is silent, and you are not working on earthly tasks. The tranquil hour is when you pray Tajjud.

When angels descend from heaven to gather the prayers of Allah’s servants, then is the appropriate moment to pray. Allah pardons the transgressors who have atoned for their crimes throughout this period.

How to Perform Tahajjud

It is offered in the same manner as the required prayers. There is a suggestion, though, that you should nap before doing it. However, you can still complete it if you have yet to sleep; it’s unnecessary.

The practices of the Two Rak’ah Obligatory/Voluntary Prayer and Tahajjud Prayer are identical. The Prophet Muhammad PBUH stated that two raka’at are the minimum amount of prayer.

You can pray for two, four, six, eight, or twelve rak’ahs during tahajjud, but you can pray for as many as possible. There is no restriction on the quantity of rak’ahs, but there should be at least two and one salutation (salam) for every two. The final nighttime prayer should be Witr.

  1. Perform Wudu (ablution) when you awaken from sleep in the middle of the night.
  2. The Hadith Reciting the Niyyah (Intention) to pray is the first step in the Tahajjud prayer.

Transliteration: Usolli sunnata-tahajjud rak’ataini lillah ta’ala.

Translation: I intend to pray the Sunnah prayer of Tahajjud two raka’at for Allah s.w.t.

  1. Recite two raka’at prayers and offer the Takbir means say Allahu-akbar.
  2. Say salam to conclude the prayer after two raka’at.
  3. After you’ve finished the prescribed rakats, add your prayers. Verify that they are accurate, courteous, and performed with total devotion to Allah.

When the Tahajjud prayer is over, conclude by performing the Witr Salah. The final prayer of the evening is the Witr Prayer. If you are going to do Tahajjud, you will only pray your Witr prayer after you have completed your Tahajjud prayer.

The Prophet (PBUH) would never skip this extra prayerโ€”not even when traveling.

After performing the Tahajjud, we are free to ask Allah SWT for anything from sincere requests to the deepest, most private prayers. Dua is a unique and personal dialogue between ourselves and our Lord. Nonetheless, several accounts of the Prophet say this dua that we can refer to and gain knowledge from:

Ibn {Abbas related that the Prophet (๏ทบ) would say this when he woke up in the middle of the night to do the Tahajjud prayer.

Praise Allah; You are the light that illuminates the earth, the heavens, and all living things inside. Praise be to You; You own the world, the sky, and every living thing on it. Praise be to You; You are True; You have fulfilled Your Promise; Allah is True; Paradise is True; Hell is True; The Hour is True; Muhammad is True; the Prophets are True. I have given myself over to You and trusted and believed in You. I turn to You in repentance; I argue with Your assistance; I present my case to You; therefore, pardon me for my past, present, and future transgressions and covert and overt actions. It is You Who puts back and puts forth. Only You are worthy of adoration, and no one else deserves worship save You.”
